The preferred method of stag hunting during the rut or "roar", as it is referred to in South America, is to glass areas where the stags have been rutting, in the high plains surrounding the river valley or along the river. Hunters attempt to stalk within rifle or bow range, once they spot a shooter stag. Typical shots average around 150 yards with much longer shot opportunities readily available in this open habitat. Hunters will be hunting on horseback from the lodge or out of Toyota trucks, and typically will experience 100% success year after year on great trophy stag. Most hunters average 1 to 2 trophies per trip and 3-4 free management stags as well. The trophy expectations at Tipiliuke are comparable to 300-class Elk trophies. Patient hunters can have the opportunity of something similar to a 330-350 class Elk. In addition, the ranch sits on one of Patagonia’s world-renowned trout fisheries, giving you access to fly-fishing on 12 miles of private riverfront along the Chimehuin & Quilquihue Rivers. California quail may also be hunted, with season beginning April 15th. You can have the opportunity to complete a Patagonia “Grand Slam” with a trophy red stag, a dozen California quail, a Russian boar, and a Rainbow and Brown trout.
Tipiliuke lodge is located in the southwestern corner of the Neuquén province in the Argentinean Patagonia region, 1000 miles southwest of Buenos Aires. It resides in the lower Chimehuin River valley with a convenient 10-minute drive from the Chapelco regional airport. It is between the two towns of Junín de Los Andes (13.7 miles) and San Martin de los Andes (21.7 miles) from the lodge.
Our guests usually arrive at Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The flight to Tipiliuke originates out of the domestic airport, Aeroparque (AEP), in downtown Buenos Aires. It is a two-hour flight into San Martin de Los Andes Airport (Chapelco). You will be met by a member of the lodge who will assist you and drive you to the lodge.
Another option is to fly from Aeroparque to the Bariloche Airport (BRC) which is a 2-hour flight, where you will also be met by a lodge representative and will ride 3 hours through beautiful Patagonian mountain roads.
