The Hunting - Tipiliuke California Quail Lodge

Estancia Tipiliuke offers exceptional wild quail hunting.  Hunters follow well-trained pointing dogs through the valley in search of the large coveys in which the California Quail of South America hold incredibly well, compared to their North American cousins who tend to run much more. Wingshooters often encounter massive coveys of quail, some 100 strong. Quail season runs from May 1st through July 31st.

There are also a range of sporting activities to enjoy year-round at this special wingshooting destination. In addition to world class quail hunting in the Patagonia Region, you can also enjoy fly fishing, horseback riding, hiking or just relaxing in the natural beauty of this estancia located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Alongside the prolific quail population, you’ll also find species like red stag and wild boar, during their respective hunting seasons.

This enchanting South American Lake District offers a myriad of activities for the sportsmen and nature enthusiast alike.

PATAGONIA QUAIL SEASON IS MAY 1ST TO JULY 31st

Location - Tipiliuke California Quail Lodge Patagonia, Argentina

The lodge is located in northwest Patagonia, Argentina in the southwest corner of the Neuquén province, about 1000 miles southwest of Buenos Aires. It is situated directly between the two towns of Junín de los Andes (13.7 miles away) and San Martin de los Andes (21.7 miles away).

The destination is only a 10-minute drive from the Chapelco airport. Most guests arrive via the 2-hour flight from the Buenos Aires domestic airport (Aeroparque) into the San Martin de los Andes airport (Chapelco). Another option is to fly into Bariloche from Buenos Aires (Aeroparque airport). This, however, is a 3.5-hour drive to the lodge through scenic Patagonia roads.

Species - California Quail

The California Quail is a highly sociable bird that often gathers in small flocks known as "coveys". They were originally found mainly in the southwestern United States but they have been introduced into other areas including British Columbia, Hawaii, Chile, New Zealand, and to Norfolk Island and Argentina. The female usually lays 12 eggs. Once startled, the California Quail of Argentina will explode into short rapid flight, called "flushing" and will hold tighter on a point and less likely to run than their North American cousin, the bobwhite.

Tipiliuke is simply an amazing place that exceeded all our expectations. The pastoral setting at the foothills of the Andes, with snow capped volcanoes, sets the mood for a delightful stay where the staff of Tipiliuke has virtually thought of everything possible one might need or want. Fishing, horseback riding, hiking, and shopping in the nearby quaint village of San Martin are just some of the nonstop activities. A stand out is definitely the culinary experience. Tipiliuke's cook of 20 years hand makes daily all the breads, desserts, pastries, and everything else on your plate is uniquely prepared. Definitely one of those special places that demands a return visit.
Roger E. Lambourn
